KULSHAN SNOW STUDY
Koma Kushan, also known as Mount Baker, Washington State's third tallest peak, is home to one of the snowiest places on earth. This winter season, I have had the privilege of visiting the backcountry wilderness surrounding this majestic volcano and witnessing firsthand the monumental levels of snow and ice. This photo series is an examination of this unique snowy environment, capturing perspectives from both far and near.

Wind loaded snowpack in the backcountry
A close-up of the snow patterns created by the wind
Intricate snow patterns resembling sand dune textures.
Dappled light in the backcountry (and a curious cloud above nearby Table Mountain)
"Roller balls" tumble down the steep slopes, an observation relevant to avalanche assessment.

Wet avalanche slides creating unique patterns below Table Mountain.
Wind and rain creating "runnels" and other patterns in the backcountry.
A close-up of the wind impact and snow patterns.
The summit pyramid of Mount Shuksan, hovering above the clouds.
